Missouri Credit Unions Make the Difference
Missouri credit unions have an opportunity to demonstrate the credit union difference and help build specially adapted homes in Missouri for severely injured veterans. 
We are teaming up with Homes for Our Troops - a non-profit group started four years ago to help build specially adapted homes for severely injured members of the military returning from service in Afghanistan and Iraq. Credit unions teamed up with Homes for Our Troops to build homes in Denver and Minneapolis in conjunction with the Democratic and Republican National Conventions this summer, and the response was overwhelming.
The Missouri Credit Union Association has already signed an agreement with Homes for Our Troops to build homes in Missouri. Each home requires a commitment of $100,000. The first will be in Branson for Army Specialist Scott West, with the intent to build many more. 
This effort was in response to Mid Missouri Credit Union’s challenge to the rest of our state’s credit unions to show everyone in the country what the “Show-Me” state can do. Mid Missouri will serve as the lead credit union on the first building project, but it will take all Missouri credit unions to make the difference in this effort.
Meet Missouri’s First Homes for Our Troops VeteranSpecialist Scott West was severely injured in Iraq when an IED exploded under the Humvee he was driving. The IED was spotted at the last second, and Specialist West jerked the vehicle so it would explode under his seat, rather than under his fellow soldiers. Specialist West lost both legs below the knee.
Today, Specialist West is back home in Branson - walking on prosthetics, engaged to be married and plans to enroll in college soon.
Missouri credit unions have an opportunity to demonstrate the credit union difference and help build Specialist Scott West a specially adapted home in Branson that accommodates his needs.
